NOAA; Take 1

Finding My Place in the Skies

When I first decided to learn how to fly, it wasn’t about building a career. It was about adventure—about challenging myself, pushing past limits, and finding a source of inspiration I hadn’t yet discovered on the ground. From that very first flight, when the wheels lifted off and the world fell away beneath me, I knew aviation was going to become a part of me. What I didn’t know then was how deeply it would shape the direction of my life.

The years that followed were filled with searching. I explored different corners of aviation, trying to understand where my passion belonged. I chased opportunities, sometimes hitting walls, sometimes finding doors I hadn’t expected. And through it all, one question lingered: how could I use aviation not just to fulfill my own love of flying, but to serve something greater?

That answer came in NOAA. To discover a path where science, service, and flight intersect felt like finding the missing piece. NOAA’s mission—to better understand, protect, and serve our planet—aligns perfectly with the reasons I fell in love with flying in the first place. The skies stopped being only about adventure; they became a way to connect, to contribute, and to make a real impact.

Even the application process became part of that journey. It tested not only my skills, but my patience, perseverance, and commitment. Along the way I met people who inspired me with their passion and resilience, who reminded me why this work matters. Each challenge reinforced the belief that this was more than just a career move—it was a calling.

Today, I’m incredibly honored and grateful to share that I’ve been selected as a NOAA pilot. In just a short time, I will join my classmates in BOTC 147, stepping into a role I once only dreamed about. I know the challenges ahead will be steep. But I also know that every hour of training, every setback, every leap of faith has brought me to this moment.

Aviation began for me as a search for adventure. NOAA has transformed it into a life of purpose. And as I prepare for this next chapter, I carry with me the certainty that the skies I once dreamed about are only the beginning.
